Recently, everyone in Peak China worries about one of our staff. She is Jia Zhongli, in the sampling workshop, from An County of Mianyang city in Sichuang, which is one of the worst-hit areas in Wenchuan earthquake.
On the morning of 14th, Chairman of the Group Labor Union Xie Guo visited each of the workshop, focusing on investigating and knowing the situation of disaster from staffs who are from Sichuan. There are around 400 workers from Sichuan and the main problems they reflected were the collision of houses and losing the contact with their family etc.
Jia Zhongli’s situation is the most serious. She lost her husband in this earthquake and the 8-year-old daughter and the 80-year-old mother need raising by her. Jia Zhongli herself is in evil case and she joined Peak just for half a year and her sister Jia Zhonglan is one of Peak’s employees as well.
Jia Zhongli was very worried and wanted to go home when she was informed the earthquake in her hometown. Even she knew her daughter was safe and sound, she was more worried and hardly got to sleep and eat when she couldn’t find her husband. Her sister and brother-in-law booked the flight ticket for her to go home the day before, however, the air company informed that the flight from Quanzhou to Chengdu at 3pm on 14th was cancelled.
At this moment, Jia Zhongli’s elder brother called her from her home and told her that her husband Chen Sheng was dead in the earthquake. Jia Zhongli cried heavily in the arms of her sister when she got the bad news and said “My best wish now is to go home and have a last look at him”. What’s the most upset is that her only wish now becomes a high hope since the flight was cancelled, no trains to Chengdu in the following ten days and it is impossible to take the bus.
“My husband is dutiful and kind to people...” tears streamed down her cheeks as Jia Zhongli recounted the merits of her husband and all the people on the site wiped their eyes. Afterwards, Jia Zhongli fainted and her workmates took her dorm.
At this moment, leaders from the general labor union in Fengze District and from the general labor union of Quanzhou came at the first timing to visit Jia Zhongli when they got the news, they also gave her 5000 yuan as the solatium. “I want to go home, my husband is still waiting for me at home!” In the dorm, Jia Zhongli fainted on bed again after the words.
Facing the leaders coming to comfort her, she repeated the words: You are all nice people but my eyes couldn’t open and couldn’t see you. Thank you so much! Jia Zhongli fainted and waked for several times. She cried too much to open her eyes.
On the same day of getting the news, the director of the sampling workshop Dong Muxin organized staffs and called for a donation to Jia Zhongli and workers in the workshop cared her so much. The company settled up the salary for Jia Zhongli and sent her 2000 yuan as solatium. When the flight returned to normal on 16th, Jia Zhongli and her sister and her brother-in-law went back to Sichuan together. On behalf of the company, the Chairman of the Labor Union Xie Guoquan gave the solatium of about 10 thousand yuan to Jia Zhongli again and encouraged her to be strong to face the reality and get her family arranged. Also, he asked her to contact the company in time if there’s any difficulties, the company will help her as much as possible. Chairman Xie said that the company would keep on helping Jia Zhongli including aiding her to see a doctor, arrange the life and study of her 8-year-old daughter etc.
